The Kleskun Hills Bison Ranch (‘KHBR’) was established in 1999 by owners Dave King, Ric Peterson and Dean Swanberg. Over the next 19 years they built a world class bison ranch, assembling thirty-two (32) quarter sections of land. Thirty (30) of the quarter sections are contiguous surrounding the Kleskun Natural Park just east of the City of Grande Prairie, AB bordering the north perimeter of divided HWY 43.
Auction starts on September 5, 2018 at 8:00 am MDT
In total over 4,800 acres, the ranch is a mosaic of virgin prairie grassland, highly fertile open fields coupled with rugged badlands giving the ranch the character it has become well known for. The exclusive KHBR is truly a one-off with the 440-acre Natural Park embedded within the heart of the ranch itself. Without leaving the perimeter fencing of the ranch the scenery will take you on a trip from the breathtaking sky-high views of Big Sky Montana, to the expansive fields of Kansas, to the Rocky Mountain foothills, ending up in the Calgary stock yards in the main bison handling area on Parcel 2.
The KHBR is a working bison ranch – the ranch house is located on Parcel 9. The bison industry is one that has achieved unparalleled strength, stability and profitability over the past seven years. The economies of scale of this ranch are proven. The entire infrastructure of KHBR has been constructed for longevity and ease of handling.
The first round of bidding will see the ranch auctioned off in 30 individual parcels. Upon completion of round one, prior high bidders of a prescribed minimum number of parcels in round one will be given an option of paying a premium to bid on and acquire the entire KHBR ranch ‘en bloc’. A successful bidder of the ‘en bloc’ will have the option of purchasing over 1,000 head of bison, equipment and hay allowing for a turnkey transition of the working ranch itself. The 30 parcels are currently held in a corporation separate and apart from the operation of the ranch itself. A successful foreign bidder on the ‘en bloc’ will be permitted to acquire the shares of the corporation in accordance with the Foreign Ownership of Land Regulations allowing non-permanent residents of Canada to have a chance to acquire this truly world class ranch.
